The Queen made a special visit to Exeter yesterday and its got us all in the mood for the fast approaching Diamond Jubilee festivities! Why not celebrate by painting your very own commemorative jubilee plate or mug to have your tea in whilst watching the celebrations unfold on the big day!

On Monday 2nd April Make Art ran an arts and crafts session at Exeter University. It was a drop in session for staff and their children to join in with three Easter themed activities, decoupage, silk painting and fabric painting. Decoupaging spring birds, bunnies, ducks and hens proved to be the most popular and staff commented on how relaxing the process was and the fact that anyone could take part no matter how un-artistic they were! Two people painted onto silk and considering it was both their first time produced fantastic paintings, an easter bunny and a colourful abstract pattern that could be made into cushion covers or even a colourful flag. Once people went back to their desks/offices with their finished items more were encouraged to have a go and different departments got to talk and mix together. There was a good crafty buzz in the room with people chatting and exchanging ideas, and overall the session was a great success.

Working at MakeArt has been a great experience for me, I have really enjoyed coming to work every morning, being independent was really refreshing. Experiencing working life is a great skill to have for when I need to start working I will know what to expect. I have a great time here helping out and learning new skills for the future!
